Fannie Mae is a government-sponsored enterprise. Co. operates in the secondary mortgage market, primarily working with lenders who originate loans to borrowers. Co. has two segments: Single-Family, which securitizes and purchases primarily conventional (not federally insured or guaranteed) single-family fixed-rate or adjustable-rate, first-lien mortgage loans, or mortgage-related securities backed by these types of loans; and Multifamily, which provides mortgage market liquidity primarily for properties with five or more residential units, which may be apartment communities, cooperative properties, seniors housing, dedicated student housing or manufactured housing communities.
