Vanguard S&P Mid-Cap 500 (the Fund) is an open-end management investment company. The Fund seeks to track the performance of a benchmark index that measures the investment return of mid-capitalization stocks in the United States. The index measures the performance of stocks of medium-size U.S. companies. It attempts to replicate the target index by investing all, or substantially all, of its assets in the stocks that make up the index, holding each stock in approximately the same proportion as its weighting in the index. As of Aug 31 2013, the Fund's investments portfolio was valued at $406,742,000.
